It’s not the first time I admire my own mom. She always knows when I’m in a trouble, even when it’s not a big deal.

Like today, like few true-evidences before, she called me. She said that she didn’t want to see me in a problem, she didn’t want to see me not having money left to buy food, and she wanted me to go home. Yes, today I got financial problem, yesterday I lent my money to my neighbor, so.. yeah.. I’m only last for 24 hours if my money don’t get back to me soon.

So, back to the point. I think she is the best mom in the world, for me. It’s like.. she got the sixth sense and well-connected to me. Well, at least she told me that one. I think that’s true, because she always told me that she felt unwell every times I got accident. So if anything bad happened to me, she always called me.

So, how’s your mom?

To say less is more might seem like a contradiction, but what it really means is that less is more effective. It’s all back to the simplicity.

From the two previous entries I posted, I keep writing about simplicity. And it’s getting more and more interesting every time I think about it.

When I connected the term to my daily activity as a programmer, I keep trying to make the script more efficient and easy-to-study by reducing the code lines.

In another context, talk less do more is one example that less is more worth than the more.

Have you think about “the more the worse” or “worse is better”?

After posting the previous post, I’m browsing around the internet, and I just realize that Google made several changes on the interface. The most noticeable change I saw is the login page, the new design look beautiful. The simple design make it beautiful.

As a web programmer and sometimes designer, I found that it is difficult to make things as simple as our imagination. This condition affected my work. Sometimes, when the script should be finished soon, I will need a lot more times to make any improvement that is beyond the original “blueprint”. It makes the simplicity lost from the plan.

That’s why a plan or strategy is essential in our work. It will keep us away from any un-expectable obstacles.

The thing is, can we follow the plan agreed by our self and even by our client?

The answer is: either can or can not.

You see, why we have to make it simple if we can give the advanced functionality to our work?

If we make it more advanced beyond the plan, we could handle the job more advanced too. The problem is, can the others uses it? Because everybody ain’t got the same skill as we are.

If we read the KISS Principle, we will understand why it is important to make something as simple as it could be. So others may help us in our work, or even fix our work when we can handle it by our self.

So, before doing your job, make a plan first, follow the plan without any doubt, and you’ll got the job done at the right time. It’s also can be practiced in daily life, make a plan!

Tonight while I’m listening to this song: “Simple Things” by Usher (From the album Confession, 2004), I realized that there are a lot of simple things around me. And seems that I can’t see them.

One of them is time. I wasted a lot of my time. Either watching movies when others are working, or still asleep while others got up and been in their workspace. Watching my parents works very hard from 4AM to 9PM, I feel embarrassed. Now, I will try to reduce the amount of wasted time and use it to do my jobs.

It is embarrassing to realize the fact that my mom used most of her time working. Why? She’s not lazy as I am! Every dimes she collected are for us, the family. But, did her children get the appropriate amount of time of care, love, and attention?

As the oldest son, I didn’t feel those feeling. I can only feel her care and love every time she called me by phone, and it’s like once a week if I’m that lucky enough. It’s been 5 years since I started to leave my parents house (starting from freshman year of junior high school), but I think my younger sister and brother feels the way I am.

Ah… I hope I can start earning a lot more of money, so my parent could enjoy a peaceful retirement. Uses their time for their children, for my dearest grandma, and of course for their self.

It’s all comeback to material things. Yes, the money. It’s all started by the money, and have to use the money to end it all.

Chasing every dime of money, till we forget what’s the important things in life, even when it’s a simplest thing around us, but we can’t see it when it’s right in front of our face because we forget what the simple thing is.
